Dear Parents and Guardians,
In last week’s Newsletter I placed information about the Learner Profile for you to see. This week I just want to mention what is often heard in this country and many others, that is 21st Century Learning Skills.
Below is some information from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and I am reminding you of what you probably already know, but more importantly how we at Tesla are building the detail to engage learners with not only the knowledge but the skills to succeed as they grow up. A short question for you all is one that a colleague asked me the other day: “Do you think children will be taught writing by 2030, or will they just use a tablet?”. Great question and I wonder what you think that future looks like?
The World Economic Forum (WEF), a non-profit based organisation in Switzerland and famous for its Davos Summit. It is academic group that develops its findings based on research, and therefore has access to a considerable degree of work being done across the world.
The WEF 21st Century Skills were released last year and I share them now as they do show that Tesla is on the right path. I am not so bold to say we are anywhere near achieving such learning yet the focus and development, at Tesla does show we are correct in the direction we are taking. The first skill is Literacy and it is at the top of the list for without it the remainder will not be realized.
This is a very comprehensive list and I placed it in the newsletter for you to conside r where children in the current Primary Section of Tesla night be gaining experiences of those skills.
You can see the whole report in the link below, but I wanted to explain a little more about the IB approach and the Learner Profile also. The skills above do compare well with the Learner Profile.
However, it makes sense for us that the Learner Profile as it is more understandable and can be actioned by teachers to help children to learn and I would hope achieve some of those skills listed by the WEF.
