Tesla Talk Week April 7th, 2021

Newsletter 7th May, 2021

Unfortunately today is the last day students get to arrive at school and see their friends for a while.  In addition to the disappointment for the students, it can be a tremendous burden on the whole family. During this period of online learning, we will do our best to ensure the students receive an engaging, relevant learning experience and a school schedule that provides flexibility for all the families in the Tesla community.

Although online learning will never replace the important social interaction students get when they interact with their peers on campus, students can build important skills in a properly structured environment. These skills include:

– Independence
– Resilience
– Time Management
– Patience and Adaptability
– Effective Communication
– Flexibility

In addition to the challenges the students have transitioning to the new platform, they are also having to adapt to the new environment at home. Here are a few tips for parents that might help with the online environment.

1. Make sure they know you are involved by asking questions but do not give them the impression they are being monitored.

– How would you explain what you are working on so I can understand?
– What was the most confusing part about what you learned today?
– How can you respond when you are facing difficulty?
– What questions have the lessons just created for you?
– What are your next steps?

2. Keep the routine as normal as possible. They might not be leaving the house to go to campus, but they are going to school.
– Wake up at the normal time
– Eat breakfast
– Make physical activity a priority
– Limit screen time when they are not working on school assignments. Provide alternate activities that get their minds off technology.
– Encourage contact with their friends. Isolation can cause anxiety.

Hopefully, things will get back to normal in a few weeks and the government is just taking precautions to ensure everyone’s safety.  In the meantime, stay safe!

Thank you,

  1. Online teaching and learning

Due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19, Tesla has followed the instructions from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training regarding the online teaching and learning plan until the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

Although the semester 2 exam for some Vietnamese subjects has been done, the teaching plan for the 2020-2021 school year will continue.

– Students starting online learning: from 10 May 2021 (Please see the Timetable and Online Study Guide on ManageBac).
– Content of online learning: The remaining content of all subjects.
– Students’ requirements: Students are required to attend every online class of every subject so that they can be assessed effectively.
– Testing and assessment:

  • From 20 May 2021 to 25 May 2021, there will be an online test to assess students’ learning.
  • This test will cover 20% of the students’ learning assessment.
  • Full attendance of every class is required of the students. This will be reflected in students’ attendance.

2. The 4th experiential learning for Primary will be postponed (Official Dispatch No. 1278/SGDĐT-CTTT dated 4 May 2021 by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training). The school will have a plan to compensate for that when COVID-19 has been controlled.
