March 2024 kicked off with an exciting STEM Week focused on the fascinating topic of TIME. Tesla Students participated in a variety of projects meant to spark their interest in TIME and its applications.
Our youngest learners became Moon detectives, exploring the different phases of the moon and their impact on our calendars.
Grade 1 students learned to navigate calendars, understand dates, days, months, and years.
Understanding the structure of time became fun for Grade 2 as they designed their own poster, complete with day and night illustrations, and created their own Sundials.
Traveling across time zones, Grade 3 students grappled with the intriguing concept of time zones and why they exist. Building on this knowledge, they created a time zone map and even constructed their own water clocks!
Taking on the big questions, Grades 4 & 5 tackled the mysteries of leap years and time itself. They explored the differences between sidereal and solar time, and even Grade 5 built a database app to determine leap years!
STEM Week is not only a time for students to expand their knowledge but also a precious opportunity for them to practice and apply that knowledge by creating useful products. The integration of various subjects, from science to technology, engineering, and mathematics, is a crucial key to helping them understand issues more deeply and apply them practically.
In addition to classroom learning, participating in workshops and listening to advice from leading experts in fields such as medicine and engineering provides students with a fresh and essential perspective on the applications of STEM in daily life and various professional fields. This not only helps them gain a deeper understanding of STEM but also ignites passion and a desire for learning in the future.
This year at Tesla School, we not only investigated the expanse of TIME, but also used it as a springboard to discover the wonders of STEM. As we progress, the lessons acquired, and inspiration obtained will certainly have a long-term impact on our Tesla students!
