SERVICE LEARNING IN PYP AT TESLA
At Tesla School, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom and into the world around us. Service Learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) connects academic knowledge with real-world application. This approach integrates meaningful community engagement into the curriculum, allowing students to develop essential skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving while fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. Through these experiences, students are better prepared for both academic success and their future roles in society.
At Tesla, students are encouraged to take initiative in identifying and participating in age-appropriate service learning projects.
Some notable examples include:
- Environmental protection: Students organize tree-planting campaigns, waste collection, recycling initiatives, and climate change awareness activities.
- Community support: They can donate books, clothes, or school supplies to children in need.
- Peer support: Older students’ mentor younger ones by assisting with learning, reading together, or teaching soft skills, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
These service-learning experiences are integrated into the curriculum to ensure that students not only engage in meaningful action but also reflect on their experiences. Reflection is a key component, allowing students to assess their contributions, evaluate the effectiveness of their initiatives, and propose improvements for future projects.
At Tesla, Service Learning is more than just a program-it is an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways, develop a deeper understanding of global and local issues, and cultivate the skills and mindset needed to make a positive impact on the world around them.
