DP Creativity Activity Service

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is one of the three core components of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) at Tesla Education. CAS challenges students to step beyond the academic curriculum, fostering personal growth, social responsibility, and a balanced, meaningful life.

Through CAS, students embark on a journey of self-discovery and contribution, engaging in experiential learning that cultivates creativity, physical well-being, and a commitment to service.

The Structure of CAS

CAS comprises three interconnected strands:

  • Creativity: Exploring and extending ideas leading to original or interpretive work. This may include painting, music composition, drama, creative writing, photography, or digital arts—encouraging students to express themselves and innovate.
  • Activity: Participating in physical exertion that contributes to a healthy lifestyle, such as sports teams, dance, outdoor adventures, or personal fitness goals—promoting health, resilience, and teamwork.
  • Service: Collaborating with others to address genuine community needs, through volunteering, tutoring, environmental projects, or advocacy initiatives—nurturing empathy and a sense of civic responsibility.

Students engage in CAS regularly over 18 months, documenting their activities and reflections to demonstrate achievement of the seven CAS learning outcomes, such as identifying strengths, undertaking new challenges, working collaboratively, and showing perseverance.

The CAS Project

As part of CAS, each student undertakes a sustained CAS project of at least one month. This project must integrate at least one CAS strand and involve planning, action, and reflection. Projects foster initiative, leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration, empowering students to make a tangible impact on their community.

The Significance of CAS

CAS is more than an IB requirement—it’s a transformative experience that develops well-rounded, globally-minded individuals prepared to navigate complexity with compassion and confidence. Through CAS, students:

  • Cultivate attributes of the IB Learner Profile, including being caring, reflective, principled, and open-minded
  • Learn to balance academic rigor with personal well-being and meaningful action
  • Gain skills in leadership, collaboration, organization, and ethical decision-making
  • Build connections between learning and life beyond the classroom

At Tesla Education, CAS empowers students to take purposeful action that enriches both their personal growth and the communities they serve—preparing them to thrive as active, engaged global citizens.
