Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week several parents asked about what the little guard box is doing at the front of the school and is the library going to open. The guard box will become operational as Tesla designs and creates a system for easier but more controlled access into school. I can assure you that the library will be open in the next few weeks as building worked continues but only at night so it will take a few more weeks before we invite you to the library opening and to see the new purchases of books that will be part of the collection.

I wanted to take this opportunity of mentioning the Learner Profile to you all as it is that part of what we are developing at Tesla that does make a significant difference. Often, we talk or ask about subjects, Maths, Drama, Science for example but as we grow older through school and beyond, we are rarely asked about what was studied at school, but instead we look for attributes within each person and this is where the Learner Profile has grown more significant for so many schools and wil l do so in Tesla over the next two years.

The learner profile lists and explains attributes and at Tesla we try to find ways through the year of allowing opportunities for students to show some of those attributes through their learning at school. I mention this now as you might also take opportunities to recognise and acknowledge such practices when you see your child exhibiting one or two of the Learner Profiles at home.

INQUIRERS. We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.

KNOWLEDGEABLE. We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

THINKERS. We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.

COMMUNICATORS. We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

PRINCIPLED. We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.

OPEN-MINDED. We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willingto grow from the experience.

CARING. We show empathy, compassion, and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.

RISK-TAKERS. We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination. We work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

BALANCED. We understand the importance of balancing difference aspects of our lives-intellectual, physical, and emotional-to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

REFLECTIVE. We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

For children of a primary age I think you will agree with me that key attributes such as communicators, caring, open-minded and inquirer are far more likely to be exhibited given opportunities at home and school.

Little Explorers students are playing with clay, recognizing colors and making fish ball.

Discoverers students are familiar with the computer.

Adventures students are in Music session.

Adventurers students are in Art session.

Mailbox students are in Art session “sticking flowers on lanterns”.

Parent support

  • Parents please prepare a tablet (operating system Android 7 or iPad 2017) for your children to learn AI-Robotics from week September 14th, Parents kindly read with your child the “information technology policy” in the Parent and Student Handbook at https://tesla.edu.vn/en/admissions/handbook/
  • Drop off time: To ensure the safety of students, please bring the card with you when picking up your child at school.
  • After School Activities (ASAs): Math subject (in Vietnamese) will stop after week 6 (Sep 25th, 2020). Student will register in another activity and begin this new activityin week 7.
